ISLAMABAD - JAVAID-UR-RAHMAN - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman on Saturday termed the Supreme Court’s (SC) verdict about Balochistan government to step down as ‘undemocratic’, saying that there would be no compromise on democracy.
“The SC’s decision is not understandable and judiciary should refrain from these matters as it is right of the people to elect or reject anyone,” said JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman, addressing a press conference, after two-day JUI-F Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting.
Maulana further came down hard on judiciary and said that this decision should be left on people of Balochistan. “We will not compromise on democracy... Judge will not contest in election, I will contest,” he maintained. Law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Karachi is also not satisfactory, he added.
It is relevant to mention here that Supreme Court in its decision said that the federal and provincial governments have failed in providing security to the people of restive Balochistan, so it should step down.
Sharing the CEC meeting’s decision, he said that JUI-F would strongly reject any decision to delay the upcoming election. “We will not support delay in election and strongly reject any possibility in this regard,” he added.
About ‘dual nationality issue’, Maulana said JUI-F would not favour any new amendment in dual nationality issue. “We will strongly oppose it,” he said, adding that the decision would be same if even President Asif Ali Zardari contact on this issue.
Speaking about matter regarding restoration of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), Fazl said that MMA meeting would be called by the second week of next month (January). “Five religio-political party members would decide whether or not to arrange meeting with Jammat-e-Islami (JI) stalwarts,” he added.
When asked about any consultation any about caretaker setup from government side, he said JUI-F has not been contacted in this regard as yet.
To a question about Lahore High Court (LHC) recent decision about Kala Bagh Dam issue, he viewed technical matter has been made political issue. “It was technical issue not a political matter. This decision would not serve any favour to this project,” he said.
To another question, he said that JUI-F General Council would meet in February to chalk out further strategy.
