PESHAWAR - Inaugurating the ‘Green Pakhtunkhwa’ campaign in Peshawar, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan Sunday announced plantation of two billion trees and converting of the Governor House into a national woman park for recreational purposes.
“There will be a complete ban on cutting of trees and use of plastic bags in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and those found violating this law will be brought to justice” he remarked while addressing an inaugurating ceremony of green Pakhtunkhwa campaign in Forest Institute Peshawar. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief Minister Parvez Khattak, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Provincial President Azam Swati, General Secretary Khalid Maswood, central leader of PTI Naz Baloch and large number of activists of Insaf Student Federation were present on the occasion.
Highlighting the importance of forests, Imran Khan said that deforestation is major sources of pollution, dearth, floods and other natural calamities. He informed that 37000 acres of land would be occupied for forestation and plantation of trees and wherever there is shortage of trees, fresh plantation would be made to increase the cover areas of forests.
He also said that youth of the province should take part in green Pakhtunkhwa campaign and those who are involved in deforestation must be brought to book. He said that cutting of trees results major disaster and natural calamities besides polluting the environment.
Imran Khan said that soon the Governor House and Qila Bala Hisar would be open for the general public while national parks would be established in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to entertain the general masses.
He added that unique stuff of animals will also be brought to these parks to provide a natural environment to the people. He also announced to convert the government rest houses in Galyat to hotels and public places to earn revenue for educational institutions of that area.
Imran said that forestation is also sources of clean water reservoirs and utilize these water resources government would construct dams to produce electricity. He also said that Pakhtuns are peace-loving people but unfortunately some people played the role of Mir Jafar and Mir Sadiq by taking dollars in reward of Pakhtuns blood. He said that time will prove that Pakhtuns were being killed for the sake of dollars.
On this occasion, parliamentary secretary for environment Fazl Ilahi and coordinator of the Green Pakhtunkhwa campaign, Amin Aslam, also addressed gathering.
