ISLAMABAD - The incumbent PML-N government has planned to build half million residential units within next four years in a bid to facilitate the low-income group.
Tasked by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, a team of professionals under supervision of federal Minister for Minister of Housing and Works has started materializing the project on priority basis.
On Tuesday, Minister of State for Housing & Works Usman Ibrahim said that the government is very much committed and sincere to provide shelter to shelter less, low-income and economically week strata of the society.
He said this during a meeting with representatives of Yooshin Engineering Corporation, Korea. The minister briefed the representatives about the Prime Minister’s vision of constructing 500,000 housing units in Pakistan within next five years.
The scheme would be called `Apna Ghar’ scheme, through which houses will be provided to low-income group on easy instalments. The meeting was briefed that as per its mandate, the Ministry is already working on institutional arrangements and policy framework to accomplish this gigantic task.
The ministry is exploring national and international partners who can join hands to make Prime Minister’s dream a reality by adopting Public-Private Partnership mode.
The delegates appreciated the PM’s vision for `Apna Ghar’ scheme and offered their assistance in undertaking engineering designs and plans.
The Yooshin expressed its deep interest and participation for developing the housing sector of Pakistan and related infrastructure including supervision of the mega projects.
The minister stated, “the company has its development and financing arms so the collaboration will be quite beneficial to complete this task of building 500,000 housing units within stipulated time.”
The delegates will present a concept paper of 20,000 housing units to the Housing Ministry within a week and then after mutual agreement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be signed to move ahead. The meeting was attended by Umar Rasool, Joint Secretary Housing & Works, Engineer Hasan Haqqani, Managing Director National Construction Limited (NCL), M. Irfan, DG National Housing Authority (NHA), Sardar Aminullah Khan (CEO) Prosperous Management Group), and representatives of Yooshin Engineering Corporation.
