PPP set to hold major rally in Punjab

ISLAMABAD - Since the current month of October might break all previous records of public gatherings of all major political forces, PPP is also set to hold a procession in Punjab after Muharram for its ongoing reorganization campaign.
PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari's recent around two-week long stay in Punjab meant to woo party's dissident workers, could not properly help achieve the desired goals in terms of reorganization.
Zardari, during his series of talks with the party workers in Punjab, realized that a lot of work was still required to maintain party position in the province and this practice should have been initiated much earlier, background interactions and discussions with PPP members left this impression.
Sources said the PTI's recent strategy to hold public gatherings in different cities apart from its sit-in in Islamabad has promoted PPP to follow the suit.
PPP in its planned reorganization campaign in Punjab is set to bring major changes in the party position in the province as Qamar Zaman Kaira might be made the party chief in Punjab by replacing Manzor Wattoo, a senior PPP leader said.
PPP's Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto in its upcoming visit after Moharam will fully focus on both upper and south Punjab besides holding a public gathering, he added. The party is also making a strategy to launch Bilawal in electoral politics both from Sindh and Punjab, as he might contest from NA-118 from Punjab where the party had faced major defeat in the last general elections.
Bilawal in its recent tweets and speeches has also started removing the image of party's love with ruling PML-N especially in the ongoing anti-government campaign launched by PTI and PAT.
The PPP senior member believed that this image has also created cracks between PPP's Punjab and Sindh chapters as even senior leaders of the party have expressed reservations on this move.
The source said that Bilawal will also try to meet and convince those workers who were against recent meeting of Zardari with PM Nawaz Sharif at Raiwind.
He is reportedly interested to induct fresh recruits in its 'reorganization' campaign; however, some saner elements are still suggesting him to keep a blend of experienced and new members in the party.
The sources said Zardari would also revisit Punjab along with Bilawal.
Political analysts believe that PPP also needs to hold public gatherings as is being done by the PTI and PAT.
