CJP takes suo moto notice of minor girl’s rape

ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani Saturday took suo moto notice of 12-year-old girl’s rape in Karachi, directing the Inspector General of Sindh Police to submit the progress report within two days of the FIR registered in the case.
The Chief Justice also ordered the IGP Punjab to appear before the court on December 24, 2013 regarding non-arrest of the culprits of minor girl in Lahore city despite of lapse of 100 days. A five-year-old Sumbal was raped in Lahore on September 13 this year.
The Chief Justice took the notice of 12-year-old girl rape on the news appeared in various newspapers on 21st December 2013. According to media reports, the girl was subjected to rape in Abdullah Shah Ghazi Goth late Thursday night (December 19, 2013) when she was standing outside her house during a power failure.
The victim was abducted by unidentified men and raped. The incident came into her family’s notice when she came home and lost consciousness. Her family approached the Sachal police station to lodge an FIR. The girl was later taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors confirmed that she was subjected to rape.
Justice Jillani took another notice regarding non-arrest of the culprits of minor girl in Lahore city.
On September 13, a five-year-old girl was found outside Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore, a day after she went missing from a low-income neighbourhood in the city. She was brutally raped by unidentified men.
The news item further stated that police have neither identified nor arrested the culprits.
It is pertinent to mention here that the above case of rape had already been registered in Human Right Cell Supreme Court. Therefore after going through the record/reports of police submitted in this HRC case the Chief Justice directed IGP Punjab to appear in court on December 24.
