RAWALPINDI - The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) thwarted an attempt of smuggling 5.7kg heroin abroad and arrested a passenger at the Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport (BBIIAP). "The ANF held a couple and recovered 5kg Charas from its possession besides conducting several raids in other cities and seized huge quantity of narcotics," informed the ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Thursday. "A total of 12 smugglers, including five lady smugglers were also rounded up during the action against drug peddlers," he added.According to him, the ANF staff apprehended a passenger namely Muhammad Afzal of Gujrat at the BBIIAP and recovered 5.7kg heroin from his luggage. He said that the heroin was detected through Airports Security Force (ASF) scanner. The accused was boarding for Athens via Abu Dhabi by flight number EY-232.The ANF staff during routine checking also arrested a couple namely Alam Sher and Robina, both residents of Khyber Agency and recovered 5kg Charas from their possession. They were arrested at the Shaheed Iqbal Toll Plaza, GT Road, Attock while travelling in a passenger bus.The ANF also launched five operations against narcotics smugglers in Islamabad, Attock, Lahore, Mardan, Peshawar and Karachi and recovered 15kg heroin, 11kg Charas, 1kg Opium and arrested 12 drug smugglers, including six ladies. Separate cases have been registered against the drug peddlers with ANF police stations and further investigation was under process.This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
