KPK assembly meets today

PESHAWER - Amid tight security arrangements, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will meet here today where newly elected members of the provincial assembly will take oath. The outgoing Speaker Kiramatullah Khan will administer oath to them.
The formal proceedings of the maiden session of the assembly will begin at 10 a.m. for which all the arrangements have been finalized. The treasury benches comprising PTI's 55 including 10 women on reserved seats, JI's eight, Qaumi Watan Party's 10 and Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan's 5, have already declared to establish a model government to bring a positive change in the province.
The JUI-F and PML-N with 17 members each have declared to give tough time to the ruling alliance instead of playing the role of friendly opposition. The ANP with five and PPP with four members in the house will also be part of the opposition. Both the parties have been coalition partners and ruled the KPK for five years.
JUI-F is willing to nominate its members for each office as Maulana Fazl Rehman-led JUI-F has already rejected the PTI's mandate in the province. JUI-F has nominated former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani as its parliamentary leader in the assembly, and Maulana Lutfur Rehman as deputy parliamentary leader. Similarly, PML-N has declared its former chief minister Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan as its parliamentary leader, who may be elected as joint opposition leader in the assembly.
The PPP has declared Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha, who won his PK-98 for third time, as its parliamentary leader while former provincial minister Salim Khan as secretary. Similarly, former education minister Sardar Hussain Babak has been declared as parliamentary leader of ANP. Former Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti, who has won election on NA-9 and PK-23 Mardan retained his national assembly seat and vacated the provincial assembly seat.
It has been learnt that Akram Khan Durrani has reportedly established contacts with members to become the opposition leader in the provincial assembly.
