LAHORE - Former Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has dubbed PTI chief Imran Khan as captain of the B-team of President Asif Ali Zardari and for that reason Imran has directed the barrels of his guns towards the PML-N and its leadership. Enraged by adverse media campaign launched by PPP and PTI leadership against the last PML-N government in Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif told journalists here on Friday that the criticism against his government demonstrates that Imran Khan has assumed the role of captain of the B-team of PPP and the PML-Q. He said Imran holds PML-N responsible for energy crisis in the country ignoring the fact that the actual culprits of pushing the country and the nation into darkness are Zardari, Gilani, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and other PPP leaders who did not produce even a single megawatt of power during their five years in the govt. But they jacked up the circular debts to Rs 500 billion to make availability of power to the masses a hard task, he said.He asked why Imran ignores the corruption which Asif Ali Zardari and the PPP leaders continued for five years. The responsibility for energy crisis, he said, falls squarely on the PPP rulers who found no time to attend to the need of producing electricity but indulged in corruption and looting of the national wealth. He cited the Supreme Court and the Asian Bank reports which indicated billions of rupees corruption in rental power plants by the PPP leaders. The former CM also criticised the gas pipeline project with Iran at the end of the former PPP government tenure and said, why not this deal was struck four years ago when the country was in dire need of energy which could have been met had the gas supply from Iran begun. The gas agreement is just an eye-wash, he added. He said the nation today is suffering only because of the misdirected and wrong economic policies of the PPP.Shahbaz said he stands by his words that ‘arrow’ and ‘bat’ are the two faces of the same coin. They have joined hands while Imran Khan is trying to ‘certify’ Zardari as clean person to cover up his corruption, he stated. This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
