KARACHI: A glamorous red carpet, a dazzling stage, a star in every row, the 14th LUX Style Awards, held in Karachi, had it all. Led by the young and energetic new breed of film stars, directors and music maestros, this was an LSA that celebrated both new age entertainment and fabulous fashion.
Hosted by the much loved pair of Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan, the event, known alternatively as Pakistan's Oscars and affectionately as the LSAs, set out to entertain from the word go. The show began with a grand performance of Sabri Brothers’ much appreciated rendition to Tajdaar-e-Haram (by GhulamFaridSabri), a song that is considered a milestone in world of Qawwali Music.
From thereon it was a rollicking musical ride. Pakistani films truly found their footing in 2015 and Ayesha Omar, (Tutti Fruity from Karachi Se Lahore) UrwaHocane (DurBudur from NaMaloomAfraad) and AmnaIlyas (Kala Doriyaan from DekhMagarPyar Se) all performed to the most popular songs of the year. Ahmed Ali Butt then capped the segment with a performance to his JawaniPhirNahiAni super hit song, alongwith the rest of the cast from a film that has caught the attention of the nation.

The Awards Show audience was entertained by current sensation YasirHussain, who is loved by audiences for his film persona, 'Moti'. Yasir and Abdullah kept an engaging repartee going with famous faces in the audience as NaMaloom Afraad swept the Film Awards and child star SalehaAref of Dukhtar got recognition for Best Film Actress.
Music is the bedrock of any Awards show and with Ali Zafar in the audience the evening was always going to be grand as well as entertaining. The act was designed to throw in surprises as singers came on stage singing Ali Zafar songs such as ‘Dadi’, ‘ChalDilMeray’ and ‘Aye Dil’,with Ali Zafar, very sportingly coming up to join them for a performance and dancing up a storm to his latest hit 'Rockstar'.
The award for Best Music Album was won via Viewer's Choice poll by Zoe Viccaji for Dareeche, while Song of the year was Roiyaan by FarhanSaeed. Sara Haider won as Best Emerging Talent.
ARY's PyareyAfzal swept the TV Awards winning five awards, including Best TV Serial, Javed Sheikh for Best Actor, Aiza Khan for Best Actress, Khalil urRehmanQamar for Best Writer and NadeemBaig for Best Director.
The Fashion Awards were dominated by Sana Safinaz walking off with Achievement in Design Pret, Luxury Pret and Lawn while Nomi Ansari won his second LSA for Achievement in Design, Bridal. Ismail Farid was honoured for his much acclaimed Menswear.
While Photography saw a new winner as Nadir Firoz Khan stepped up, Hair and Makeup maestro Nabila won her 9th LUX Style Award. Amna Ilyas was declared Best Female Model andShehzad Noor was Best Male Model. Model SadafKanwal, who also performed at the LSAs, was adjudged Best Emerging Talent.
The LUX Style Awards have consistently paid tribute to legends and recognized the efforts of those who built the entertainment and fashion industries. The Unilever Chairman's Lifetime Achievement Award was given to film director Syed Noor. The award was presented by Ehsan Malik, Chairman & CEO Unilever Pakistan, whilst NadeemBaig, shared his experiences of working with Syed Noor.
The Lifetime Achievement in Fashion Award was given by designer Maheen Khan to MasarratMisbah of Depilex. Masarrat, who has been in the beauty industry since the past 30 years, was first honoured by Hassan ShehryarYasin who spoke eloquently of her life and work with the Fashion industry and the Smile Again Foundation.
The LUX Style Awards has been giving away Scholarships every year since 2008 to deserving students to complete their final year thesis. Again this year eight students, two each from NCA, (National College of Arts) NAPA , (National Academy of Performing Arts) AIFD (Asian Institute of Fashion Design) and PIFD (Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design), were handed their certificates of merit from TalatHussain and Imran Aslam.
The finale had international star RahatFateh Ali Khan and director FriehaAltafintroducing four new faces to cinema by coaxing virtuoso performances out of models NooreBhatti, Sabeeka Imam, SadafKanwal and Fia Khan. They performed to well-loved numbers such as ZarooriTha, ChoriChori , Terey Mast Mast Do Nain and Habibi with everybody joining in for the grand finale on Nach Dum Dum.
