ONE of the live streaming webcams set up in polling stations across Russia for people to monitor presidential election voting inadvertently caught the tail-end of a party.
The live stream picked up footage of revellers dancing under lights at a nightclub in Kirov as loud music blared out only hours before the venue was transformed into a polling station.
Webcams were set up in Russia's polling stations in response to allegations of fraud during the country's recent parliamentary elections. The government installed almost 200,000 cameras across 91,000 polling stations at a cost of nearly half a billion US dollars, all scheduled to broadcast live on the website webvybory2012.ru.
As with Britain, many of Russia's polling stations function as public locations but few UK election sites can probably lay claim to use as a nightspot. Posted online on Sunday, the title of the video translates as, “Dancing at a polling station in Kirov.”–TG
