Katy Perry has said her marriage to Russell Brand taught her that she needs more of a ‘team mate’ in life. The pair split after 14 months as man and wife and Katy’s on-off relationship with John Mayer came to a close in February. Speaking in the July issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, the singer said of her marriage : ‘It feels like a hundred lifetimes ago, so it’s like digging up an old grave. A lot of therapy has happened and a lot of understanding and growth.’  E! News reported that she added: ‘Sometimes you have to go through all this to get your grips on life and figure out what the next boundaries in your love life are going to be. You have to go through the mud in order to find that peaceful place.  ‘In the long run, it was necessary for me to have more of a teammate.’ Katy also told the mag that she believes that she’s never single for long because she carries rose quartz, a crystal ‘which attracts the male’. Asked how long she had gone without romance, Katy replied: ‘Maybe six months or a year. I don’t stay single for long: I carry a lot of rose quartz, which attracts the male. Maybe I need to calm it down with the amethyst!’
She said that she’d never have a one-night stand, but added: ‘I’m not like Professor Higgins with my life, I’m not super strict. For me, the most important thing about romance is connection.’ Asked if she’ll ever get back together with John, she said: ‘I know it sounds really bad but I’m living in the now and not fantasising about the future or being torn up about the past. I have a lot of respect for (John) still, and I know it goes both ways. There’s no bad blood, but I’m sure there will be inspired songs.’
