US First Lady steals Rihanna's style

Shes as at ease rubbing shoulders with the homeless as she is with the worlds most powerful statesmen. But last night Michelle Obama had an arguably more daunting task - holding her own among some of Hollywoods hottest stars. The First Lady presented a flawless face to the celebrity-studded crowd - with her glamorous new look apparently taking inspiration from pop star Rihanna. Mrs Obama was addressing the Time 100 gala in New York which honours the magazines 100 most influential people in the world. Of course, few are as influential as Michelle, the wife of US President Barack Obama, who along with Michelle was included in the list. And her sculpted sleek hairdo, is sure to soon spawn a raft of copycat styles. The pared down 'do was the perfect complement to the First Ladys simple long black fitted evening gown, accessorised with a fashionable clutch of jet bead necklaces. Mrs Obama had earlier visited the US Mission to the United Nations and appeared on Sesame Street. But at the glittering gala, at New Yorks Rose Hall, she mixed sparkle with substance, introducing the administrations proposal to give $50 million to innovative nonprofit groups. As well as the Obamas the list honours movers and shakers in the worlds of politics, technology, business, fashion, science, television, film and music. Mrs Obamas entrance was applauded by fellow honorees Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Walters, fashion designer Stella McCartney, and the men who invented Twitter. Actors Claire Danes, Hugh Dancy, Kate Hudson and Liv Tyler were also among the audience. Both Liv and Stella joined Kate Hudson, who bucked the overwhelming trend for black in a white satin suit. The high-flying trio were partying together for the second night in a row - after attending the annual Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala the previous night. -Daily Mail
