Paltrow lends support to Madonna

JUST a day after she found herself in the spotlight of a 50-million-pound divorce case, Madonna received a supportive visit from her closest friend, Gwyneth Paltrow. The actress arrived at the Central Park West apartment on Monday afternoon trailed by a nanny carrying Madonna's adopted son David Banda. Paltrow's arrival comes as the singer is being linked to the marriage break-up of Alex Rodriguez, the world's most expensive baseball player. His wife Cynthia, 34, accuses him of having had a string of affairs. But the 'final straw', according to her lawyers, was his association with Madonna. The divorce papers, which have been filed in Miami, say the marriage was 'irretrievably broken down' because of Rodriguez's "extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct" although Madonna was not named. Reports claim that Rodriguez, 32 - in the first season of a 139 million pounds, 10-year contract with the New York Yankees - made a series of visits to Madonna's New York flat, and that he converted to Kabbalah, the mystical Jewish movement followed by Madonna.  Rodriguez's lawyer Earle Lilly said: "She (Cynthia) has tolerated a lot of misconduct, but this one was the straw ... the final straw. I mean, having her sit in his box at baseball games, and the Kabbalah meetings that have taken place ... it's like an open forum. It's just short of embarrassing if nothing else " Madonna, 49, recently issued a statement denying she and the baseball star were having an affair. She said: "I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study." Now it has emerged that Rodriguez - nicknamed A-Rod - had a secret flat which his wife knew nothing about, a few blocks away from Madonna's New York home. Cynthia, who is seeking custody of the couple's girls Ella and Natasha, claimed her husband "emotionally abandoned" her and had an affair with a stripper. Meanwhile, there have been further reports after claims - vigorously denied - that Madonna and Guy Ritchie are planning to divorce after seven years of marriage.   Her biographer J Randy Taraborrelli, writing in Hello magazine, says they have both been to lawyers to discuss - hypothetically - how to proceed with a divorce.  One friend is said to have told him: "They have been living largely separate lives for nearly a year."  But another concluded: "A divorce would be absolutely devastating to both of them ... If she and Guy can just see their way through this current storm, I think they can make it. In fact, I'd be very surprised if they didn't. "                          - Daily Mail
