Selena Gomez spotted in Tennessee amid break from spotlight

ALCOA: A month after Selena Gomez announced that she would be "taking some time off" to deal with anxiety and depression caused by lupus, the singer has resurfaced in Tennessee, reported by ET Online on Sunday.

The former Disney star stopped by the Texas Roadhouse in Alcoa, Tennessee on Saturday for a meal, taking time to greet a crowd of excited fans.

The 24-year-old singer revealed that she would be taking time off in August.

"As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways," she explained in a statement to media. "I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges."

"I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off," she continued. "Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best."

"I know I am not alone by sharing this," Gomez concluded. "I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues."

A source close to the "Same Old Love" singer told media at the time that Gomez "hadn't felt like herself," and that her break was "absolutely not related to alcohol or substance abuse."

Media has reached out to Gomez's rep for comment.
