Madonna suffered an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction during a show in Thailand this week in an incident that mirrored her high-profile fall at the BRIT Awards last year
The pop superstar has taken her Rebel Heart shows to Asia, and she performed in the Thai capital, Bangkok, at the city’s Impact Arena on Tuesday night. However, the show was marred by drama during a rendition of Material Girl when Madonna was dancing in a wedding veil while clutching a bouquet of flowers.
In video footage filmed during the concert, Madonna is seen getting trapped in the veil as two dancers attempt to pull it from her, and she fights to free herself as she is dragged backwards.
The incident is similar to the singer’s stage fall at the BRIT Awards in London last February, when dancers attempted to pull Madonna’s long cape from her shoulders, and ended up dragging her down a set of stairs. Madonna later admitted she broke down in tears because she felt so embarrassed by the mishap, telling US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, “I went to my room and cried from humiliation - not because I was in pain. Nothing hurt on me. That’s just the weirdest thing, I’m hard on myself.”
The Like A Virgin star also refused to watch footage of the fall because she did not want to relive the experience. “I don’t want to see any part of the performance...” she adds. “(After the fall) the first thing that crossed my mind wasn’t, ‘Oh my God, am I hurt?’ It was just like. I made a mistake. I wanna start this again’. And I couldn’t, so I was like, ‘OK, I’ll just keep going’. It’s nobody’s fault. Actually if anyone’s going to take the blame it’s me, since I insisted to tie the bow (of the cape) tighter around my neck.”
