Indian actor Shammi Kapoor passes away

Bollywood's style icon of the 50s and who was one of the first true blue superstars Shammi Kapoor, aged 79, died around 7 a.m. this morning at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. The veteran actor was serious for the last two days and breathed his last early this morning according to family sources. Shammi who had suffered a kidney failure was a regular visitor to the Breach Candy for his dialysis. Often during the dialysis, he got fever and would be forced to stay in the hospital for at least two days atn a stretch. He suffered a lot on account of his kidney ailment but his zest for life was unmatched. Known as the Yahoo star because of his Tarzan call in the film Junglee; Shammi who shot to legendary status with his inimitable dance steps and stylish moves in films like Kashmir Ki Kali An Evening In Paris, Bramachari, Teesri Manzil, Ujjala and Andaz remained one of the most reverred stars of his generation. The younger brother of showman Raj Kapoor and the elder brother of Shashi Kapoor, Shammi had a box office record that was unmatched by the stars of the 50-60s.
