The world’s largest search engine, Google, Tuesday celebrated the birthday of iconic Sufi singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan with a unique Doodle.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a singer of Qawwali, the devotional Sufi music. He was born to a family of musicians in Faisalabad on October 13, 1948. Even in his short life, Khan came to be immensely popular not only in his own country and region but globally. He died after a cardiac arrest in 1997.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is largely responsible for the fusion ‘world music’ as we know it. He took his musical heritage and collaborated with countless musicians and toured extensively, and was solely responsible for making the world familiar with the magic of the mystical Qawwali tunes. Owing to the legendary singer’s popularity, the doodle is viewable in six countries including India and Pakistan.
