Captain America: Civil War leads People’s Choice Awards

LOS ANGELES-‘Captain America: Civil War’ has come out on top in the 2017 People’s Choice Awards nominations after securing seven nods in four major categories.
The Marvel blockbuster is in with the chance of nabbing a collection of gongs at the annual event, held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at the beginning of January, after it secured a nod in the Favourite Movie category against ‘Deadpool’, ‘Finding Dory’, ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Zootopia’.
The film - which was directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo - could also walk away with the prize for the Favourite Action Movie, but will have to fight off competition from ‘Suicide Squad’, ‘Deadpool’, ‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and X-Men: ‘Apocalypse’. And with a helping hand from one of the movie’s main stars, Robert Downey Jr. - who portrays Iron Man again - ‘Captain America: Civil War’ could also walk away with the Favourite Movie Actor title, providing he manages to fight off Kevin Hart, Ryan Reynolds, Tom Hanks and Will Smith.
The 51-year-old actor could also walk away with the prestigious prize for the Favourite Action Movie Actor but has been pitted up against his co-star Chris Evans - who plays Captain America - ‘Deadpool’s Reynolds, Suicide Squad’s Smith, and ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’s Liam Hemsworth.
And the film’s leading lady Scarlett Johansson - who plays Black Widow - has also secured two nominations in the Favourite Movie Actress and Favourite Action Movie Actress category.
However, if she’s in with the chance of claiming either title, the 31-year-old beauty will need to outdo Margot Robbie and Jennifer Lawrence, who have also secured nominations for both prizes.
Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Kevin Hart, Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron may be known for their more serious roles, but all of them are up for Favourite Comedic Movie Actor.
Anna Kendrick, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson are also up for the same gong in the female equivalent category for their laugh-out-loud antics on the big screen.
On the music front, Blake Shelton, Drake, Justin Timberlake, Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd are in with the chance of claiming Favourite Male Artist, while Adele, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Rihanna could walk away with the trophy for Favourite Female Artist.
And the ‘Hello’ hitmaker and ‘Side to Side’ singer have also managed to climb into the Favourite Pop Artist category against Britney Spears, Timberlake and Australian artist Sia.
Kanye West - who has been busy touring for the last year - is up against his close friend Wiz Khalifa in the Favourite Hip-Hop Artist, while DJ Khaled, G-Eazy, and Kendrick Lamar have also made the cut.
