1.   Floppy Disk

With an enormous capacity of 1.44 MB, the floppy disk was the only source of file transfer in the 80s and 90s. The good old floppy is relegated to the bottom shelf, I wonder why?

2.   Music Cassettes

Before the world of MP3s, online streaming and torrents, there were audio cassettes. With a playing time of somewhere between 30 to 90 minutes, you even could be immensely cool and make a ‘mixed tape’. Unfortunately, they were technically outmoded by the time the 90s ended.

3.   Cartridge console games

The perfect treat of Sega and Nintendo consoles were on the wishlist of every 90’s kid. Those games were what made us do our homeworks. Games like Donkey Kong, Contra and Mario Bros. are classics and we still love them. The expansion of computer gaming led to these good old play stations to be replaced for good.

Speaking of games, this was the ultimate portable game player, then.

4.   Box set TV and antennas

There used to be a time when, to watch your favorite TV shows like ‘Ainak Wala Jinn’ and the classic PTV dramas, you had to be home on time and have the antenna pointing in the right direction. Otherwise there was team work involved, with one person manually pointing antenna to different directions on the roof, while others yelled, if the picture got clear. Today, you can record the show and watch it if you can get away from your phone.

5.   Walkman

This is the ipod and the mp3 player and trust me you looked cool when you had it on you.

6.   Reel Cameras

Technology killed the primitive analog film camera. No birthday or picture was complete till you held a smile for five seconds to ensure the frame was in focus. The excitement and wait continued till the film was actually developed and pictures printed. In fact, our generation was probably the last generation that got their pictures clicked on film!

7.   Videocassette recorder VCR

For all those, who have no idea what VCR’s are, it was the DVD player of that time. The first VCRs were designed and built in the 1960s, and became available to the public around 1970. The technology rapidly evolved and the equipment came down in price, so by the mid-1970s it was within the reach of the average consumer.

8.   Cartoons

These cartoons were all we wanted to watch before going to school. Denver the last dinosaur, Captain planet and many more made us wake up for school.

9.   Polka Ice creams and Bunty

These ice creams have more significant value than you can imagine. They were not only delicious but there was something sweet about that age added in it.

10.   Old Mobile Phones and Landline

Those portable phones were so big and had a certain range out of which the signals dropped dead. The landline phones had a ring dial and the modern phones had no CLI (Caller I.D).

11.   Dial-up Internet

The dial up internet was not as simple as the internet we had today. All you 90’s kids need to listen to the noise and feel a little bit of their childhood come back and say ‘Hi’.
