Katy, Pharrell appointed Met Gala co-chairs

GN New York City - Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams have been handed the honour of serving as celebrity co-chairs of the 2017 Met Gala.

The musicians will help US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour behind the scenes of the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit in New York City, which many consider to be the Oscars of the styleworld.

The theme of next year’s (17) event will focus on Comme des Garcons brand creator Rei Kawakubo and the Art of the In-Between.

The Japanese designer, known for creating outfits which go against the grain of traditional fashion and beauty, will also contribute as an honorary chair of the bash. The 2017 Met Gala will take place on 1 May (17).

Perry will step into a role previously occupied by her pop rival Taylor Swift, who co-chaired the 2016 event with British actor Idris Elba.

Fashion’s big night typically draws the biggest names in music and Hollywood, but there are two famous faces who will not be stepping foot on the red carpet in May.

Actress Lena Dunham and comedienne Amy Schumer both recently expressed their distaste for the Met Gala, with the Trainwreck funnywoman vowing never to return after confessing this year’s fashion bash “felt like punishment”.
