LOS ANGELES: Ethan Hawke has admitted he has had to get “super Zen” about criticism of his performance as Macbeth. The Hollywood star is playing the Shakespearean character on Broadway and his performance has had mixed reviews, with USA Today saying he “lacks certain fundamentals necessary” and The New York Times suggesting “he delivers Shakespeare’s poetry like a moody, glue-sniffing teenager reciting Leonard Cohen lyrics to himself”. Ethan - who also had a stage role in Henry IV in 2003 - admitted he does “care immensely” about the critical reaction. But he added: “I don’t control it and I have to get super Zen about it.–BT
