James Bond gun sells for 277,250

A pistol from a James Bond promotional poster sold at auction in London for 277,250 up to ten times its asking price. The weapon - a Walther air pistol - was used in promotional shots featuring star Sean Connery for the 1963 film 'From Russia With Love and was only expected to reach between 15,000 and 20,000 when it went on sale at Christies auction house. Another James Bond pistol, which appeared in 1974 film 'The Man With The Golden Gun, sold for 15,000 at the Popular Culture: Film and Entertainment sale. Meanwhile a Darth Vader costume - which had been expected to fetch up to 230,000 - failed to sell. The costume - believed to have been used in the second 'Star Wars film 'The Empire Strikes Back was removed from auction after disappointing bids. The outfit, which was being sold by a private collector from the US is thought to have been the first complete Darth Vader costume to be offered for sale.
