Shrek named as children's best film ever made

SHREK has been named the best children's film ever made in a poll of adults. The DreamWorks film, which hit the big screens in 2001, stars Mike Myers as the voice of the big green ogre along with Eddie Murphy as his side kick Donkey. Despite initially appealing to children, the computer animated movie's adult-orientated gags meant it soon became a firm favourite with the older viewers. Now a poll of 3,000 adult movie fans named it the children's film they most enjoy watching. Second place in the poll went to Johnny Depp's 2003 blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean. A spokesman for www.onepoll.com, which carried said: "Shrek is a great film whether you are five or 50. "It has the simple plot and colourful characters keep the children entertained, but the jokes and adult humour make sure that it also keeps the older generation happy." Third place went to Disney/Pixar classic Finding Nemo, which tells the story of clownfish Nemo, who is stolen from his coral reef home by a diver to add to his fish tank in Sydney. Toy Story was at number four while the first of the Harry Potter films, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was at five. Disney favourite The Lion King was voted into sixth place followed by Mrs Doubtfire and Monsters Inc. Ice Age and Wallace and Gromit completed the top ten. Other films to be included in the top 20 include Roald Dahl's classic tale Matilda at 15, along with Disney classics Bambi at 19 and The Little Mermaid at 20. " Telegraph
