LAHORE: Being a pioneer institute of its kind in the country Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design has opened doors to new career opportunities for its graduates which were not available here before, thus paving the way for cultural and industrial development. The annual thesis display 2016 on Wednesday was a testimony to this fact.

PIFD show showcased thesis work of around 168 graduating students of fine-arts-visual arts and textile & design, furniture design, Gems and Jewellery Design, Leather Accessories and Footwear, Department of Ceramic Design and Glassware. The collections presented by students are diverse in nature and depict the thought process and development of every student. Mrs. Abbassi S. Akhtar (Former Principal PIFD), Mrs Salima Hashmi, Mr Saeed Akhtar and Mr. Humayun Zafar (President of Textile Institute of Pakistan Karachi) were the chief guests on the occasion. PIFD Vice Chancellor Prof Hina Tayyaba presented souvenirs to them. Professor Shaista Vine, Registrar, Mr. Attique Ahmad, Director Admin, Course Coordinators and Senior Faculty Members of PIFD were also present.

PIFD show presented the work of seven departments working under four Schools/ Faculties; Department of Fashion Design, Department of Fashion Marketing and Merchandising, Department of Textile Design, Department of Gems and Jewellery Design, Department of Furniture Design and Manufacture, Department of Leather Accessories and Footwear, and Department of Ceramic Design and Glassware.

The student’s projects are diverse in nature and not only capture the essence of academic programme but also realities of the corporate world. Most of the students’ projects/ products have been prepared/developed by them keeping in mind the consumer and the industries requirements.

All the students have documented their work as to make them available for future reference.  With numerous avenues of collaboration opening up on national and international level, it is hoped that PIFD graduates will enter the local as well as global market whereby contributing new ideas and energies to it.

PIFD Vice Chancellor Prof. Hina Tayyaba congratulated the students for displaying their thesis work successfully. “The students have worked so hard and I wish them best of luck in their future endeavours. I appreciate the great effort made by the course coordinators, faculty and support staff. I hope that these graduates, who are entering the global market with fresh ideas, will contribute in the future development of our economy,” Prof Hina said.

Rimsha Adnan (student) said her project’s name was ‘Architectural heritage of Lahore’. “The inspiration is drawn from the architectural appeal of colonial relics in present day Lahore. Elements of Lahore heritage museum, perspective drawing and historical narration inform the study of the silhouettes.

The show will continue till 7th June daily from 10am to 6pm.
