On the night of 4th December, an exclusive rave was held on the outskirts of Lahore, in a farmhouse on Burki road.
Armed guards as well as Punjab police secured the entrance to the farmhouse. The guests before entering had to be stamped and frisked thoroughly.
Around1:30 AM gunshots were heard over the loud music coming from a more secluded section of the farmhouse, which was a green expanse where the food stalls had been set up. The crowd panicked and attempted to hide behind the stage to secure themselves, and the guards in the area asked everyone to run towards safety.
According to a witness, 3 shots were fired initially followed by a machine gun burst. After some time, the crowd dissipated towards the area where the shots were heard to find Asad Shah apparently shot to death. The culprits had fled and the guards and police were nowhere in the area.
An eyewitness reported that Shah had suffered three gun shot wounds and was profusely bleeding. Someone had already carried him into the backseat of a nearby car however the driver of the car or the keys were nowhere to be found and panic stricken guests could not immediately decide what to do with the body.
One guest reportedly checked Shah’s pulse and announced that he was still alive and could be saved. He was dragged out of the car he was in and in the absence of police and security personnel was taken to the hospital by his friends but Shah died on the way.
