LAHORE: A young woman today was shot and killed by her three relatives over love-marriage in Baghbanpura.
A police officer today told The Nation that husband of the victim fled the crime scene during the shooting at a house in Ahmad Town early in the morning. “Saddam Hussain (victim’s husband) fled immediately as three relatives of the lady entered the house with guns,” Ali Asghar, duty-officer at Baghbanpura police station said.
Investigators identified the victim as 24-year-old Iram Bibi.
Saddam along with his wife Iram was staying at the house of his elder brother in Ahmad Town when the gunmen reached there. He told the police that his brother-in-law Khan Muhammad along with his two accomplices carried out the gun attack.
Three gunmen entered the house and opened fire on the lady who was standing in the courtyard. As a result, Iram sustained six bullets and died instantly. The body was moved to the morgue for an autopsy.
Iram and her spouse were living at a rented house in Begumpura since they contracted marriage against the will of her parents. Police investigators say they believe the attackers were in search of the couple since they married.
The police have registered a murder case against Khan and his two unidentified accomplices and are investigating. No arrest was made till late night.
