LAHORE: Kuch Khaas has been providing a platform to artists and creative thinkers since 2010. It organized a fun and festive night this Friday under the banner of “LACAS main Kuch Khaas” featuring the multifaceted Ali Sehti. He performed live at the sold out concert.
The event started off with the Harvard graduate completely enthralling the audience through the melody and the lyrical uniqueness of Hafeez Hoshiarpuri’s renowned ghazal “Mohabbat karne wale kam na honge”.
Ali Sethi’s vital contributions to Mohsin Hamid’s best seller The Reluctant Fundamentalist are widely known and it was no surprise that he had chosen to sing “Dil jalaane ki baat” written by Javed Qureshi as his next song.
“I absolutely love this song, it tells a tale of how the Urdu culture takes back to the white culture” he added.
He further amazed the audience with his vocals by singing “Khaak ho jayenge hum tumko khabar hone tak”, a song that was included in the celebrated Sarmad khoosat’sfilm: Manto.
The next three songs “Kithay nain na jorin”, “Aye dil kisi ki yaad main”, “Dasht-e-tanhai” and “Maigh” further contributed to the built aroma, managing to send the jammed packed audience into a magical journey.
“Way sonay diya kagna”, “Lai beqadran naal yaari” and “ Tere bin nae lagda dil mera dholna” were his next choices and completely altered the course of the previous music with their upbeat nature, lifting the mood of the crowd and causing a few people in the audience including Ali Sethi’s mother Jugnu Mohsin to stand and “Bhangra”.
“I wanted to try something different and I just hope that I can pull this off” with that being said the disciple of Ustad Naseeruddin Saami stunned the audience with his cover of the classic “I can’t make you love me”.
Ali Sethi not only encapsulated the uniqueness and importance of all these ghazals and songs in one night but also gave the audience an unforgettable experience.
