11 India ruling party MPs resign

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Nine ruling Congress party members of parliament tendered their resignations over their demands for a separate state of Telangana in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, roughly halving the government's majority in the lower house of parliament. Seven MPs tendered their resignations in person to their speaker of parliament, and two others sent their resignations by fax, a party lawmaker said. "We want to identify ourselves with the aspirations of the people of Telangana," said K. Keshav Rao, a member of the upper house, who also resigned.
