Pioneer of settler movement dies

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Hanan Porat, a former Israeli parliamentarian who was a driving force behind the Jewish settlement movement in the West Bank, died of cancer on Tuesday, his family said. He was 67. Born in 1943 in British Mandate Palestine, he was raised on a kibbutz built by Holocaust survivors near the West Bank town of Bethlehem.
