6.2 magnitude earthquake hits Argentina

A magnitude-6.2 earthquake has hit northwestern Argentina, but there are no immediate reports of damage or injury. The U.S. Geological survey says the quake hit at 8:12 a.m. (8:12 a.m. EDT; 1112 GMT) and was centered in the Jujuy region, about 87 miles (137 kilometers) east-northeast of Salta. At least some people in tall buildings in Argentina's capital said they did not feel the quake.
