Ban slams Israeli settlements

NITED NATIONS - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Saturday voiced his "deep" disappointment at Israels move to expand Jewish settlements in occupied East Jerusalem, and expressed concern over provocative actions taking place on the ground. A statement released by his spokesman said that the secretary-general was "deeply disappointed" by the recent approval given by the Govt of Israel to build more than 900 housing units in East Jerusalem. "He (Ban) reiterates that settlement activity in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is contrary to international law, and he is concerned by provocative actions on the ground," the statement said.
