SRINAGAR: While terming Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s address to AJK Legislative Assembly during Kashmir Solidarity Day a historic and based on political realities, All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has asked India to respond positively to the gestures shown by the Pakistani premier.
In a statement, Farooq said that Pakistani premier’s statement on Kashmir not only speaks of a courageous approach to end the present confrontation and distrust between the two countries but also reflects the sincere intentions of Sharif about a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
He said that it remains to be seen whether the political leadership of India responds to the initiative of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif positively and resolves all outstanding issues between the two countries including the Kashmir dispute by initiating a meaningful and result-oriented dialogue process among all the stakeholders. He asked India to shun its traditional stubbornness and hard-line posture regarding the issue holding the peace of entire South Asia hostage.
The APHC chairman stressed that the resolution of Kashmir dispute was inevitable for the betterment of peace and prosperity of over one and a half billion people of the entire South Asia and said that time had come to lay a foundation for a better and prosperous future of the region and end political uncertainty and economic deprivation of the people by respecting their social and human rights, Kashmir Media Service (KMS) reported.
“It is time for the leadership of the two countries to take bold and courageous decisions to end the stalemate and work towards a better future of the entire region,” he added.
Mirwaiz said observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day in Pakistan provides encouragement to the people of Kashmir to carry forward their ongoing resistance struggle.
