Israel slams UN Gaza report

UNITED NATIONS - Israeli President Shimon Peres said Wednesday that a UN investigation report is 'outrageous','not fair and one-sided,' and his country will not apologise for attacking UN schools and other facilities during its deadly military campaign in Gaza in January. Peres made the statement to the press here after his meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the UN Headquarters in New York. We think it (the report) is outrageous, we shall never accept it, he said. We dont think we have to apologize because we have the right to defend the rights of our children and women. The report released Tuesday accused Israel of reckless disregard for human life in using white phosphorus munitions that killed and injured Palestinians sheltering in a UN school its bombing of Gaza. The four-man UN panel, led by Ian Martin, a former head of Amnesty International, confirmed that smoke projectiles containing white phosphoros had twice struck UN premises, causing two deaths. The UN board had a limited mandate to investigate the nine worst attacks on UN premises and vehicles during the war earlier this year.
