WASHINGTON: - A majority of Americans gave U.S. President Barack Obama high marks for his diplomatic skills during his first overseas trip, according to a new CNN survey released Monday. A large majority, 79 percent, of those surveyed said people in other countries would have a more positive view of America because of Obama, while only 19 percent said it would be more negative. Asked whether the president has accomplished anything on his trip, 16 percent said that he had accomplished a great deal, while 45 percent thought he had accomplished a fair amount during this trip that took him to the European Union Summit in the Czech Republic, the G20 Summit in England, and the NATO Summit in France. Pollesters said the poll shows that the Americans apparently think that Obama's primary achievement on his trip so far was increasing goodwill rather than winning specific concessions from other countries. The president was in Turkey Monday meeting with the country's lawmakers. This is Obama's second foreign trip since being sworn in as president, but is seen as his debut on the world stage as the American leader. He visited Canada for a day trip in February. The survey was conducted among 1,023 adult Americans on April 3- 5.
