BENGHAZI (AFP) - Bombers targeted the car of a senior Libyan police officer in the country’s second city Benghazi on Saturday, without causing casualties, a security official in the eastern city told AFP. “The car of Colonel Mohammed bin Halim, chief of police operations in Benghazi, exploded outside his home. No one was hurt,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Preliminary inquiries show that a home-made bomb was thrown at the vehicle by unidentified assailants.” Saturday’s attack was the latest against senior police and army officers in eastern Libya, heartland of the 2011 revolution that toppled veteran dictator Moamer Gaddafi, and comes just a week before the first anniversary of his death at the hands of the victorious rebels.
