Srinagar- Indian soldier of Border Security Force posted outside the residence of Chief Minister of occupied Kashmir Omar Abdullah opened unprovoked fire today morning causing some panic in Srinagar.
Residents at Gupkar road where Abdullah lives said they were woken up by the gunshots. "It was not a single shot. We heard firing and thought it was a militant attack," said one of them. The chief minister's special security team immediately overpowered the soldier and handed him over to police.
Meanwhile Abdullah tweeted he is safe and that he has "full faith in his security."
"Notwithstanding today's incident with the BSF soldiers stationed at my residence in Srinagar today I have full confidence in my security team," Abdullah wrote on Twitter.
Police did not comment on the issue further, but sources said the soldier seemed mentally "stressed."
A National Conference leader who did not want to be named said the Chief Minister was in Nubra and not at his residence when the firing took place.
He said the soldier posted on the barracks near the CM's residence fired 12 gunshots. "It seemed he had some psychiatric problem, no one was injured though. The CM is safe, he is in Nubra campaigning," the leader said.
