MOSCOW (AFP) - A local opposition website in the volatile province of Ingushetia in southern Russia said Saturday "around 50 soldiers" were killed in multiple attacks by militia fighters, quoting officials. "A source from the Sunzhensky region interior ministry said around 50 soldiers were killed" in at least two attacks in which armoured personnel carriers and trucks were also destroyed, the Ingushetia.org website reported. Defence ministry officials were not immediately available to comment on the report. Russian officials were earlier quoted in news agency reports as saying two soldiers were killed and five more injured in an attack on a military column. Ingushetia.org said one attack happened near the village of Galashki, while another was on the road between the villages of Surkhakhi and Alkhasty. There was also a third attack on a military column that had come as a reinforcement to the road between Surkhakhi and Alkhasty, Ingushetia.org said. The website is highly critical of local authorities in Ingushetia. Its owner, Magomed Yevloyev, a local opposition leader, was shot dead after being taken into police custody in August.
