UNITED NATIONS - Russia's mission to the U.N. Monday declined a request for a campaign contribution from U.S. presidential hopeful John McCain, a vocal critic of Moscow's policies. Russian officials, the permanent mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations or the Russian government do not finance political activity in foreign countries,'' Russia's mission to the UN said in a statement about the letter dated 29 September, which was addressed to Vitaly Churkin, the country's Russian ambassador. But Brian Rogers, a spokesman for Senator McCain, the Republican Party nominee, said the letter was undoubtedly a mistake because the campaign would never'' solicit money from the Russian government. McCain assailed Russia's military intervention into Georgia in August, saying, We are all Georgians'' and that Russia should be thrown out of the Group of Eight industrialized nations. A spokesman of Russian mission said they haven't received any similar letter from Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, a senator from Illinois.
