Afghan Airforce kills eight senior Taliban leaders in airstrike

Kabul: At least eight senior leaders of the Taliban militants group was killed in an airstrike conducted by the Afghan Air Force in northern Faryab province of Afghanistan.

According to the local security officials, the airstrike was carried out in Almar district early on Friday morning.

A spokesman for the 209th Shaheen Corps Mohammad Reza said at least 11 Taliban insurgents were also injured during the airstrike.

He said a number of the foreign militants were also among those killed or injured during the airstrike.

Faryab is among the volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where the anti-government armed militants have recently increased their insurgency activities.

At least 19 people were killed and several others were injured in a suicide attack which targeted a busy market in Alamar district last week.

The First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum is currently northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan where is planning to launch a major military operation in northern provinces of the country, specifically the northern Faryab province.

The Afghan National Army Chief of Staff Gen. Qadam Shah has also visited northern Afghanistan to plan and coordinate the military operation in this Faryab province.
