SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik have extended the shutdown call up to 29th July.
The leaders in a joint statement issued in Srinagar, have appealed people to strictly follow the protest programme.
As per schedule, they reiterated the call for holding the programme in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district, today, to pay glowing tributes to the martyrs of Kashmir.
On 26th July, shutdown will be observed up to 2:00pm to stock essential items while blackout will be observed from 8:00pm to 9:00pm.
Similarly on 27th July, complete shutdown will be observed besides Kulgam Challo programme.
On 28th July, complete shutdown and protests will be observed and on 29th July, complete shutdown in the territory will be observed besides a march towards Jamia Masjid Srinagar will be held.
Curfew and other restrictions continued in Kashmir as authorities on Monday stepped up security.
The Press Trust of India (PTI) reports, this is in view of a march called by APHC to Anantnag district, which has seen the highest number of deaths during the unrest in the Valley.
"Curfew is in place in Anantnag, Baramulla, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian districts of the Valley as a precautionary measure in view of the call given by some elements for a march to Anantnag district town," a police official said.
He said areas falling under the jurisdiction of 11 police stations Srinagar were also placed under curfew.
"Restrictions are in place in four districts - Bandipora, Budgam, Ganderbal and Kupwara and remaining areas of Srinagar city," he said.
Clashes had broken out between protesters and security forces after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani and his two associated were killed in an encounter with security forces on 8th July.
So far 56 people have been killed and over thousands injured in the violence.
Mobile telephone, mobile internet services and train services remained suspended for 17th day while schools, colleges and other educational institutions also remained closed due to a strike called by the separatist groups to protest the civilian deaths.
