122 ISIS militants killed in eastern Afghanistan

JALALABAD: Up to 122 militants loyal to the Islamic State group have been killed in the eastern Nangarhar province over the past 24 hours, spokesman for provincial governor Attaullah Khogiani said on Tuesday.

"The government forces during ground and air operations against ISIS rebels in Achin district have killed 122 fighters and arrested 20 others over the past 24 hours," Khogiani told.

There were no casualties on civilians during the operations, the official asserted. The operation is still going on, the official added.

ISIS militants who have been operating in parts of Achin and the neighboring Kot districts over the past one year are yet to make comment.

Earlier, local officials reported killing a key ISIS commander Saad Emarati in Kot district on Monday night.
