India: Kashmiri prisoner attacked in Tihar jail

Srinagar- Family of Rafiq Ahmad Shah, a youth detained in Tihar Jail since 2005, has accused that the jail inmates have attacked and critically injured the detainee.

According to a local news agency, the family of the young man called Rafiq Ahmad Shah has accused that he, besides other inmates, has been attacked inside Tihar jail and that no serious effort from the authorities to prevent such incidents has been taken so far.

The family of Shah stated further that detained Kashmiri youth have been attacked before and that the government acts as a mute spectator.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani while condemning the attack on Kashmiri detainees in Tihar jail stated that such acts shall not be tolerated at any cost. "Criminals inside Tihar jail have been given a freehand to unleash terror on Kashmiri youth and International Red Cross and international human rights organizations must look into the matter," Geelani said over phone from Delhi.
