Gen Petraeus to head CIA

Afghanistan war commander Gen. David Petraeus will head Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) while CIA director Leon Panetta will take over at the Pentagon, Associated Press news agency quoted sources as saying on Wednesday. It says Petraeus, who took over charge of US mission in Afghanistan in June, is being expected to leave the post before the end of this year while the US has planned transition to Afghan security control begins this year, and the US wants to start withdrawing some of its approximately 100,000 forces in July. It noted that his name had been floating as a possible replacement for Panetta if President Barack Obama decided to tap Panetta to replace Robert Gates as Defense Secretary.
