Pakistan decides to apprise UN about Indian interference

Islamabad: Pakistan has decided to acquaint the United Nations about its concerns on Indian interference in Pakistan.

At the weekly news briefing in Islamabad earlier today, Foreign Office Spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah said, “the National Security Advisor level talks between Pakistan and India could not take place due to preconditions from the Indian side.” He said Pakistan had clearly stated that any preconditions would not be acceptable for the talks. To a question, the spokesperson said Pakistan's role is that of facilitator in Afghan peace process. He reminded that Pakistan hosted and facilitated the first round of talks between Afghan government and Taliban. It is now up to the Afghans to decide the future course of action about talks.

The spokesperson told the media that the Prime Minister is expected to visit United States this year on the invitation of US President Barrack Obama. Dates for the visit are still being worked out. He said Pakistan and the United States enjoy excellent relations and both the sides discuss all issues including cooperation in the defense field. Qazi Khalilullah said Prime Minister Sharif’s meeting with his Indian counterpart is not scheduled on sideline of UN annual session. The spokesman said that Pakistan engaged international community for release of Pakistani prisoners in Israeli jails. Pakistan has stopped its citizens from travelling unnecessarily in Middle East and African countries in the wake of tense situation therein.

“The situation in Middle East and African countries is highly tense due to terrorism. All Pakistani citizens are informed to avoid travelling unnecessarily in these countries. All the embassies and missions remain ready to extend help to Pakistanis in these countries”, added Khalil Ullah Qazi.

He said that Pakistan’s permanent representative in UN Maleeha Lodhi had formally informed UN on suspension of talks between Pakistan and India. “Pakistan will keep US abreast with every such matter which causes concern for us”, he added. He went on to say no meeting between prime ministers of Pakistan and India has been scheduled on the occasion of UN General Assembly session. PM Nawaz Sharif will meet heads of all the countries on the eve of General Assembly session and inform them about Indian spy agency RAW meddling in Pakistan affairs. He will also apprise them of Indian intransigence with reference to suspension in talks between Pakistan and India. He underlined that all Pakistani envoys in Pakistan embassies abroad have been directed to meet the heads of respective countries and inform them about suspension of talks between Pakistan and India and Indian stubbornness
