New Delhi- Days after Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat claimed that Mother Teresa served the poor with an intention to convert them, Sangh’s Braj Prant pracharak, Dinesh Kumar, on Friday said that she did not deserve the Nobel Peace prize, as her aim was to lead the poor to Christianity.
Maintaining that the issue of “conversion” by Mother Teresa will be raised at the All India Pratinidhi Sabha meet of RSS — to be held in Nagpur on March 14, 15 and 16 — Kumar said the matter will be part of discussion on anti-national activities happening in the country.
“The biggest annual meet of RSS will demand that the Centre be requested to probe the activities of the missionaries functioning in the country and action be taken against them on sedition charges, if found guilty of indulging in conversion,” Kumar said.
He added that while Mother Teresa never worked for the interest of the people in India, she camped in Kolkata and set up Missionaries of Charity to target poor and tribals from Northeast, Tripura, Jharkhand, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh among others.
“She lured them to convert by offering education and health facilities… If she had to work for the national interest, she would have worked as per the Hindutva ideology,” Kumar claimed.
Asked why Mother Teresa was being targetted, Kumar said missionaries involved in conversion are attacking RSS workers, who are working for the poor in remote areas through Sangh unit Seva Bharti.
“As Seva Bharti has exposed the agenda of these missionaries, their men are targeting RSS workers. The issue of Mother Teresa will hit the missionaries involved in conversion,” he added.
The comments come a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there is complete freedom of faith in the country and everyone has the right to retain or adopt the religion of his or her choice without coercion or undue influence.
Around 1,500 delegates representing all RSS offshoots will be present at the RSS Pratinidhi Sabha in Nagpur, where they will present annual reports.
