Srinagar: In Indian held Kashmir, Hurriyet leaders and organizations including Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi and Mirwaiz-led Hurriyet forum have said that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory, and its future status is to be determined as per UN resolutions and aspirations of its people.
The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Yasin Malik strongly reacted to Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s address and termed her remarks on Kashmir unrealistic. He said, “Kashmir is and was not any nation’s integral part but a disputed territory whose inhabitants are striving for their birth right.”
Malik said that Sushma Swaraj had ridiculed the UN by calling Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India, because it is UN itself that is certifying and guaranteeing the disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat Syedah Aasiyeh Andrabi said that the anti-Kashmir and anti-Pakistan rants by Sushma Swaraj were baseless and unrealistic. “These are absolute lies. A country is claiming a territory whose inhabitants have rendered more than six lakh sacrifices to see an end to the illegal occupation. Do such things happen at a place which is ‘integral’ to any country?” she questioned.
The forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in its statement said, “Jammu and Kashmir even before 1947 was not a part of India and will never be an integral part of India. It is a disputed territory, the final status of which has yet to be determined in accordance with UN resolutions and as per aspirations of its people”. The statement added that the assertions made by Shusma Swaraj was also an attempt to deflect the world attention from state terrorism and grave human right violations being committed against the people of Kashmir by India and its agencies.
