Test of new Russian missile ends in failure

MOSCOW (AFP) - The test firing of a new Russian intercontinental ballistic missile ended in failure when the rocket crashed back onto the territory of the launch site, reports said Wednesday. The launch Tuesday from Plesetsk in northern Russia was the first test flight of a brand new ground-based missile which is said to be a development of Topol-M strategic missile which has a range of over 10,000 kilometres. After launch, the missile fell back down onto the territory of the cosmodrome. There were no casualties or damage, a military source told the RIA Novosti news agency. The defense ministry declined to comment.
