PBF president discuss ways to promote badminton

ISLAMABAD - President, Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF), Nazar Muhammad Gondal Saturday directed the provincial associations to hold the district level tournaments to spread the game at grass root level. Gondal, who is also Federal Minister for Food & Agriculture, presided over a meeting of the secretaries of all affiliated units of the federation at the Committee Room of Pakistan Sports Board, Islamabad. The participants discussed various important issues as well as to uplift the standard of badminton. The meeting continued around four hours and the house decided that efforts would be made to get the badminton included in the 11th South Asian Games, which are scheduled to be held at Dhaka, Bangladesh in the last quarter of 2009. According to an official of the PBF, House also decided to expand the number of members of the Executive Committee of Pakistan Badminton Federation. The President, PBF directed that provincial badminton associations to hold district level tournaments to spread the badminton activities at grass root level. It was also decided that both senior and junior national championship will be organized simultaneously to motivate and give exposure to the young budding players. The house also decided to grant affiliation and voting right to the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) who is presently sponsoring badminton activities. The President, Pakistan Badminton Federation constituted funds generation committee that would explore the possibilities to get more sponsorship to enable the federation to overcome the financial constraints. It was also decided that Pakistan Badminton Federation would make every possible efforts to acquire the services of foreign coaches to put the badminton on the road of success and glory. The meeting was attended by Syed Naqi Mohsin, Senior Vice President PBF, Aamir Hayat Rokhri, Honorary Secretary PBF, Iqbal Saeed Khan, Treasurer PBF and secretaries of Punjab, Sindh, Balouchistan, North West Frontier Province (NWFP), Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA), Northern Areas and Islamabad.
