Crime rate declines in capital during 2015

Islamabad - A slight decrease has been witnessed in the crime rate during the year 2015 as a total of 7751 cases were registered during the year, compared to 8325 cases registered in the previous year.
The decrease was witnessed in murder cases as 148 cases were registered in the year 2014 and 110 in 2015. Similarly, attempt to murder cases also declined as 150 cases were registered in 2014 and 130 during 2015 while 403 hurt cases were registered in last year and 372 during 2015.
Overall dacoity, robbery, burglary and theft incidents also decreased as 1364 cases were registered under these crime heads during 2014 as compared to 1008 cases in 2015. According to the data of crime cases available with APP, more cases were registered under arms recovery as 835 were reported in the year 2014 and 947 in 2015 while 1929 cases were reported under Foreign Act during 2014 as compared to 2034 cases in 2015.
It is to mention that ratio of registered cases against those possessing illegal weapons and narcotics went high in 2015 after arrest of those involved in such activities. However, an increase was witnessed in rape (zina)/kidnapping cases as 205 such cases were reported in 2014 and 245 in 2015. Around 112 fatal accidents were reported in 2014 and 140 in 2015 and 101 non-fatal accidents in 2014 and 112 in 2015.
Islamabad police have been divided into four zones including City Zone, Saddar Zone, Industrial Area Zone and Rural Zone. Most of the crime cases were registered in the Saddar Zone having a total of six police stations, however, the ratio of registered crime cases is low as compared to the year 2014. A total of six police stations falls in the jurisdiction of Saddar Zone which registered a total of 2451 crime cases in 2015 as the same zone registered 2711 cases last year. Likewise, City Zone has also six police stations in its area which registered 2054 cases in year 2015- slightly low as compared to the 2136 crime cases registered last year.
Rural Zone also having six police stations registered 2039 cases in 2015 and 2021 cases in the year 2014. Industrial area Zone having four police stations in its area registered 1207 cases in 2015 as compared to 1457 cases last year.
Among crime cases of heinous nature during 2015, 39 murder cases were reported in Rural Zone followed by Saddar Zone (31), City Zone (22) and Industrial Area Zone (18).
A total of 129 cases of vehicles theft were registered in Saddar Zone followed by 110 cases in City Zone, 73 cases in Industrial Area Zone and 57 in Rural Zone during 2015. Among 22 police stations in Islamabad, a maximum of 617 cases were registered in Kohsar police station in year 2015 of which 202 cases were related to matters of cheque dishonor under section 489F PPC.
Except four newly established police stations inaugurated in 2015 including Khanna, Shamas Colony, Noon and Karachi Company, the minimum number of 137 cases were reported in Nilore police station of which 20 cases were registered under Arms Ordinance.
On average, almost 21 cases were registered on each day of the year 2015 while ratio was 23 cases per day in 2014.
Central Police Office Islamabad claimed that continuous efforts were being made to control crime. Following the directions of the Minister for Interior, strategy to combat criminal elements was reviewed repeatedly during the year 2015 which yielded positive results to control crime.
Though only seven percent reduction has been witnessed in overall crime cases but the credit definitely goes to the Islamabad police for the achievement.
