Islamabad - Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Thursday held a ‘Mehfile-Husne-Qirat’ as part of its series of events to spread the message of Quran, the Holy Book among young generation.
The event, jointly organized by University’s Employees Welfare Association and Abdul Wadood Center of Quranic Sciences.
Eminent Qaris including Qari Buzarg Shah Al-Azhari, also participated in the event, said a press release. It was the second ‘Mehfile-Qirat and Naat’ arranged during the holy month of Ramdan.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Shahid Siddiqui announced on the occasion that the University will give three special cash awards annually to country’s prominent Qaris by holding national-level Qirat. Two awards will be especially for young male and female Qari and Hafiz-e-Quran.
Besides this, the University will hold annual ‘Seerat Conference’ and publish research journal on ‘Seerat-un-Nabi’. Dr Shahid Siddiqui said it is paramount duty of the educational institutions to convey the message of Quran and Sunnah to their students through such proceedings.
University’s top priority is to convey its students the message of Islam through academic and non-academic pursuits. Quran is our identity and we must keep it up by truly practicing it in every-day life, he added.
